About Mary /  Contact

Mary Bogue (née Griffin) has roots in Canada, South America and Britain. Born in Peru to English and Canadian parents, she was educated in Ontario and gained a degree in Fine Arts from McGill University, Montreal, before studying at the Byam Shaw School of Art, now part of Central St Martin's.

Her marriage took her to Rio de Janeiro where the bright tropical light encouraged her to develop a more abstract style. Mary had two successful exhibitions in Brazil. Since the seventies she has lived in London as well as travelling in Europe and America, and has had further exhibitions.

Mary has been influenced by the artists she most admires - Monet, Picasso and Rothko. She works in a variety of media - oil, acrylic, pastel and pencil - and her interest in experimentation led to a year working with molded cloth instead of flat canvas.
